Visit the Cravanche cave
Discovered by chance by two workers in 1876, the Cravanche cave is located in the middle of the forest near Belfort. It is classified as a Natural Zone of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest (ZNIEFF). Ready for a trip to the centre of the earth?
The Cravanche cave is nestled in the Mont forest in Belfort. Its history is fascinating: it was used as a burial site in the Neolithic period. You can admire the remains of the excavations at the Belfort museum. The tour is led by an expert guide. You'll discover three of the cave's nine galleries on foot (290m long in total). The largest room is the most impressive: 26m long, 10m wide and 10m high.
Please note that it is not possible to visit the cave between November and April in order to respect the wintering period of the many bats. Outside this period, you can book your visit at the Belfort Tourist Office. As the visit is very popular and there are only a limited number of slots available, we advise you to book ahead. Tickets cost €5 per adult and €2.50 per child.
