The Vercors massif was formed over 20 million years ago from the depths of the ocean. It has been shaped over time by the climate and human activity.

Today, hikers come into close contact with a high level of biodiversity. The woods are mainly home to oak, beech and fir trees, and the pinewoods are planted with hooked pines. The limestone rock adorns the landscape, as do the many rivers.

This impressive richness is home to a considerable variety of animal species. As a result, the Vercors Park has created protected areas such as the Natura 2000 sites.

The Sarrasin bridge

Just a few kilometres from Valence, this natural site gives you the impression of being lost in the middle of nature. The hike is accessible to beginners, despite some steep gradients.

There are plenty of signposts to guide you along the way. They will enable you to appreciate the most beautiful panoramas of the area between wooded areas and cliffs.

Allow at least a good 3 hours' walk to complete a loop with the Pont des Sarrasins at its heart.

Finally, you'll come across this natural stone arch. It's not the entrance to a cave, but a geological curiosity. There are many legends about this 12-metre-high arch... It's up to you to believe it or not!
